FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
About Wenwan Walnuts
Are wenwan walnuts edible?
No. Wenwan walnuts are a specific ornamental variety grown for their shape, texture, and ridge patterns. They are not the same as edible walnuts and should not be eaten.
What makes wenwan walnuts special?
They develop a unique patina through daily handling. The oils from your hands gradually transform the surface color from pale yellow to deep amber to rich mahogany — a process that takes months to years and results in a pair that is entirely your own.
How long does it take to develop a patina?
You’ll notice the first changes within 30–60 days of daily handling. A mature, deep patina typically takes 1–2 years. The more consistently you handle them, the faster and more beautifully they develop.
Do I need any special skills to start?
None at all. Simply hold them, turn them in your hands, and brush them daily. That’s it. Our Care Guide covers everything you need to know.
Choosing the Right Pair
Which variety should I choose as a beginner?
We recommend Apple Walnut or Lion Head for first-timers. Both are forgiving, beautiful, and develop excellent patina. Our Starter Collection is curated specifically for new buyers.
What size should I choose?
35–40mm fits most adult hands comfortably. If you have larger hands, 40–45mm may feel better. When in doubt, 38mm is a safe universal size.
What does “AA grade” mean?
Grade refers to the quality of matching between the two walnuts in a pair — how closely they match in size, shape, ridge pattern, and texture. AA is our standard quality. AAA and above are reserved for our Premium and Rare collections.
Can I buy a single walnut instead of a pair?
Traditional wenwan practice uses pairs — one in each hand. We sell pairs only, as this is the authentic way to practice wenwan.
